The Conversation Between Monkey King and the Great Buddha

It was quite a hectic Sunday afternoon. While listening to some songs, I have come across an interesting article on Facebook. It was a Chinese article at first and hence I translated^^ Hopefully everyone can enjoy^^

One day, Monkey King asked the Great Buddha: "What is LOVE?" The Great Buddha said: "Dear Monkey, go to the paddy field and if you can find the biggest and most golden paddy seed, thus I will tell you what is all about. However, there is one RULE! Do not look back while you are searching." Hence, the Monkey King went and done what he said but after quite a long time, the Monkey King came back empty-handed. The Great Buddha asked him why and Monkey King said: "At first I have found a big and golden paddy seed, but I thought there will be bigger seed in front. Instead of picking it, I went and searched for others but the seeds I found was not as mature as the first I found. So at last, I didn't pick it." Hence, the Great Buddha explained: "So, this is LOVE."

The next day, Monkey King asked the Great Buddha: "What is MARRIAGE?" The Great Buddha said: "Dear Monkey, go to the forest and chop down the toughest and strongest tree, and thus I will tell you. However, there is one RULE! Do not look back while you are searching." Hence, the Monkey King went and after a long time, he came back with a big and tough tree. The Great Buddha asked why he chose the tree and Monkey King replied:" I have come across lots of trees which are nice, tough and strong. I remembered what you have said yesterday and I have learnt a lesson. Although it was not toughest tree, I chose it or else I would be coming back empty-handed." Hence, the Great Buddha explained:" So, this is MARRIAGE."

Again the next day, Monkey King asked the Great Buddha: "What is HAPPINESS?" The Great Buddha said: "Dear Monkey, go to the paddy field and pick the prettiest flower, and thus I will tell you. However, there is one RULE! Do not look back while you are searching." Hence, the Monkey King went and after a long while, he came back with prettier flower. The Great Buddha asked why he chose that flower and Monkey King replied:"I have come across lots of beautiful flowers and I simply pick one and insist it as the prettiest flower. Although I have seen much prettier one, but I still insist the flower I chosen." Hence, the Great Buddha explained:" So, this is HAPPINESS."

The other day, Monkey King asked the Great Buddha: "What is AFFAIR?" The Great Buddha said: "Dear Monkey, go to the forest and pick the prettiest flower, and thus I will tell you. However, there is no rule. You can search again where you have passed." Filled with determination, the Monkey King went and after two hours, he came back with a withered flower. The Great Buddha asked why and Monkey King replied: "I am tired now. I searched for the whole forest, searching for the prettiest flower. I finally found it after two hours but on my way back, it withered." Hence, the Great Buddha explained:" So, this is AFFAIR."

Again the other day, Monkey King asked the Great Buddha: "What is LIFE?" The Great Buddha said: "Dear Monkey, go to the flower and pick the prettiest flower, and thus I will tell you. Same like before, there is no rule. You can search again where you have passed." Filled with determination and learned the lesson before, he rushed to the forest and after three days, he did not come back. So the Great Buddha went to the forest and found him sleeping in a camp. The Great Buddha approached and asked: "Have you found the flower?" The lazy Monkey King pointed to flower nearby and said: "This is the prettiest flower." The Great Buddha asked him why he did not pick it up and the Monkey King said: "This is the second flower I have found. The first flower I found was much pretty but it withered the next day. So, I evacuated and found the second one and I set up my camp here. If I pick it up, I afraid that it would wither." Hence, the Great Buddha said: "Now, you have understand what is LIFE!"

In our journey, the easiest thing to miss is LOVE. Feeling guilty about it, we have found the suitable MARRIAGE and yet it is not the best LOVE that has experienced. HAPPINESS occurs when we have satisfied with our own decisions. AFFAIR appears in front of you, but it will somehow and suddenly disappears and at last you obtain nothing. LIFE is all about searching for HAPPINESS^^
